Tenders awarded for the $13.4m GDC - Three Bridges Project.
In July this year Grey District Council was fortunate to be awarded $13.4m from the Governments “shovel ready” infrastructure contingency fund (Provincial Growth Fund) for the upgrade of the following three road bridges: Rough River Bridge, Moonlight Bridge and William Stewart Bridge.
The purpose of the funding is to boost local employment in the Grey District by giving business owners confidence and certainty for the future, allowing them to employ more staff to complete the shovel ready projects. The existing bridges at Rough River and Moonlight will benefit with a replacement of the existing single lane bridges with new two-lane bridges. The third bridge, William Stewart bridge, will undergo a major refurbishment of the existing bridge structure and although it will remain a single lane bridge, it will be given a longer lifespan. The bridge will also include a cycleway on the new structure to support the proposed cycleways to the area.
Council’s Project Manager, Brent Drummond, said, “All three bridges are currently in the design and approval phase and the tender contracts have been awarded. All three projects will be of great value to the Grey District community.”
