Surf Team Fundraising
The West Coast Scholastic Surf Team are currently raising funds to help get to the NZ Surfing Competition in 2020.

This year the Surfing Scholastic Competition will be held in Kaikoura from the 5th to the 9th of October. The competition comprises of regional teams of 12 from Secondary Schools around the Country.
The West Coast Team are Caitlin Harris and Alyssa Blacktopp from Greymoth High School. Jessie Roche, Lydia Hawes, Stella ODea, Cade ODea, Keanu Martin, Taine Forsyth, Alan Paterson and Jacob Fitzgerald all from Buller High School, Josh Sheridan form Nelson College and Tom Boothroyd from Nayland College. Coach is local surf legend Julian Young (Youngy) and Manager Buller High School Sports Coordinator, Annie Evans.
The team are running their second annual Duck Race on Sunday 23rd August 2020 to raise funds. Up to 1000 ducks will be tipped over the Orawaiti River bridge and race down the river to the finish line.
First duck over the line will win $200, 2nd $100 and 3rd $50 with a Lucky Duck prize draw of $50. There will also be loads of spot prizes for ducks.

The aim is for a Community Event with a market day atmosphere. Any organisation or individual is welcome to set up a stall for a fee of $5.00.
There will also be a colouring competition for 12 years and under to win your own numbered duck for the race.
Ducks cost $5.00 each and can be bought from the team or the Westport Duck Dive Race facebook page (CLICK HERE) or Photopatch in Westport.
Local celebrities will be tipping the ducks off at the start line.
