Move Over Gavin Grant....

Eagle on the 8th, Highlight of golfing week.

Gaye Munnerley

Many golfers around the West Coast have heard the story of Gavin Grant and his famous 'eagle' but that yarn has been over shadowed with Gaye Munnerley managing to bag a two on the par 4, 8th hole of the Greymouth course this past week.

Interestingly Munnerley was playing with an Eagle Foundation ball.

A good turnout contesting a standard stableford was held on Saturday. Winning by a considerable margin, and saying goodbye to his current handicap was Mark Connors with 41 points then the bunch followed with Josh Golding second on 35 points then Kevin Clucas, Paul Kaye and Reuben Ellen all 34 and then Ethan Negri on 33.

The two's club this week was Mike Osborne, Ruben Ellen and Ethan Negri.

This coming Saturday is the qualifying round for the Kaiata and Groom cup competition, which is individual matchplay on handicap. Remember if you come second in the first round you do get a second chance by playing in the Groom cup.

We are looking for players for next Sunday's match against Hokitika which will still be a home game for Greymouth as the Hokitika club want to play the away game first and have home advantage for the return match which will be 23rd August. Raymond will gather names and get a list up for next Sunday.

Also remember the music quiz on the 25th. Get your flairs on and come along for a great night out. Only $10 per player and that includes supper and anyone is welcome, not just golfers.

Saturdays medal was the first round of the Cranston Vase with Brett Martelletti having the best round with nett 70. Shane Minhinnick and Tony Reynolds were both nett 71 and Dean Cummings had nett 72.

Minhinnick, Cummings, Bernard Batt and Brian Wilkinson each had a two.

This Saturdays match is also a medal and the second and final round of the Cranston Vase. Sundays match is a $10 Stableford.

The LGU match was won by M Thorpe with a great score of net 69, M Glasson 2nd, and S Davidson 3rd on countback from M Curtain. M Glasson won the putting competition. Points Silver M Thorpe 3, M Glasson 2 and S Davidson 1. Bronze M Curtain 3, K McIntyre and S Heney 1.5 each. The E Knight Trophy for the best net was won by M Thorpe.

This Saturday Captains Cup 4BBB Nominated Partners will be played, T McMullan Starter and S Heney Catering.

A reminder to all players to please get your names in for the TEY Seddon match against Greymouth in Greymouth on 26 July.
