Ex Fire Chief Oficer Alan McEnaney (Scorch) has passed away

Alan joined the Fire Service in 1955 and served for 54 and a half years. Alan served for both the Cobden & Greymouth Volunteer Fire Brigades. For the latter as Chief Fire Officer from 1986 until his retirement in 2014.
Scorch was the recipient of a Queen's Service Medal, 50 year medal and a 25 year Gold Star. He was a Life Honorary Member of the Greymouth Fire Brigade, the West Coast Provincial Fire Brigade Association and the Grey District Fire Brigades Sub-Association, just to name a few of his achievements.
Alan was involved in some of the larger incidents in Greymouth history, such as the Transwest Fire, Railway Hotel Fire, 1988 floods, 1995 Cave Creek disaster, 2005 Tornado, 2008 windstorms and Pike River Disaster.
McEnaney was also known for his talent on the Rugby fields. He was a New Zealand Colt in 1955 when the team toured Australia and Ceylon and he played alongside Rugby legends Colin Meads and Wilson Whineray. Alan was on the top try scouring list for the tour, he played for West Coast from 1955 to 1957 and represented West Coast – Buller against NZ Maoris and the Spring Boks in 1956.

Passed away peacefully at Dixon House, Greymouth, on June 23, 2020, aged 84. Beloved husband of the late Diana, dearly loved father and father-in-law of Michael and Gaynor (deceased), and Annabelle and Ross Dey, much loved grandad Porky of Courtney and Matt, Kellsie and Mason, much loved Poppa of Rebecca and Tony, Danielle and Rhys, Ashleigh and Ollie, Brittany, Madison and Adam, Cody and Alisha, Tyler and Paige, and Kennedy and Dion, loved Poppa Porky of Tamzyn, Cohen, Harrison, Bennett, Miller, Olive, Wilbur, Preeda, Chase, and Iver, and a loved brother, brother-in-law, uncle, cousin and friend of many. Messages to 30 Manuka Place, Paroa, Greymouth 7805. A Service to celebrate Scorch's life will be held in Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Tainui Street, Greymouth, on Saturday at 1.00pm. Alan will then be laid to rest with Diana at the Memorial Park Cemetery, Gladstone.
