GREEN LIGHT for Greymouth Motorcycle Street Races
The Greymouth Motorcycle Street Race held a special meeting last night to determine whether to continue preparations for the Labour Weekend event, given the current COVID situation.

While the committee is mindful of the risks involved with bringing several thousand people to the West Coast, they also understand the economic benefit to businesses in the area which was the original intent of the event following the 1988 floods.
With the region’s tourism focused economy being hard hit by the closure of international borders, moteliers have reported to the committee they are thankful to be heavily booked for the Labour Weekend event.
For this reason, the committee voted to continue with the event on the proviso that the Government announcement on Monday brings us back to Level 1, with no restrictions on crowd levels.
With the changed environment the committee is also looking for further manpower to assist with setting up and manning the 1.5km circuit over the Saturday and Sunday.
They are hoping that the community will get behind them and they encourage groups looking for fundraising opportunities to contact Club President Dave McNoe on 027 557 9515.
