Full House for Whispers of Gold
The premiere screening for 'Whispers of Gold' in Greymouth was another sell out for the film.
Whispers of Gold, A Tale of Boom and Bust and a West Coast town that refused to die is currently screening around the West Coast.
Reefton was first to show the film in a packed out theatre followed by a sold out screening in Greymouth last night. The popular film commissioned by Friends of Waiuta and made by Hokitika filmmaker, producer Dave Kwant, with direction by Luis Caston and story by Robyn Janes looks set to continue good prospects at theatres.
Hokitika has strong bookings for tonight and Greymouth Regent is once again a sell out for tomorrow afternoon and have now added an extra five sessions to keep up with the demand in the coming days.
Whispers of Gold tells Waiuta’s story from its beginnings to the current day. Archive film and photographs give a rare glimpse of the 1900’s mining town life - the colorful characters, stories, and the gold that kept its heart beating but left a toxic legacy.
Now a passionate group is lovingly restoring Waiuta as a New Zealand landmark, while others are looking to once again mine the untold riches below.
