The New Zealand government is hopeful it will take pressure off the hospital system during the current Covid-19 situation. Last year one in four Kiwis got their flu vaccine, this year is on track for more than one in three to get vaccinated.
Coastal Health has had a definite increase in the up take of flu vaccines in Greymouth. To date over 1500 people have been vaccinated in the Coastal Health car park, rain, hail or snow.
Feedback has been positive, especially with only waiting 5 minutes if having previously had the vaccine.
"We are also working with many businesses (Coast wide) to vaccinate on-site, it’s fantastic to see the importance of workplace vaccination schemes." Manager, Trudi McGrath told McBride Vision.
The clinic is working with Poutini Waiora who were successful receiving funding through Ngai Tahu and the MoH to support non-eligible Maori aged 55 years to 64 years to receive flu vaccinations.
The next drive in public vaccine clinic at Coastal Health will be Wednesday, May 13. Patients can phone the main reception and book 768-5942.
The jab was initially restricted to priority groups - young children with severe respiratory illnesses, people with certain chronic conditions, those 65 and over, pregnant women and front-line health workers.
